Check Writing Machine Identification
Check Writers (Check writing machines):
As with typewriters, check writers operate about the same system. An element or typeface is placed into the proper orientation or position and forcibly hits or impacts a printing “ribbon” and the correct character or numeral is printed onto the paper. If there is a defect in the printing typeface or mechanism, it is possible to identify the specific machine from which the suspect documents were produced. In the illustration below the questioned check contained an aberration (defect) present to the left of the printed amount. This aberration, as shown in the standard checks produce from the suspect machine, prints on every check and depending upon the pressure used to impact the information onto the check, the darker or lighter the aberration.
